Snake Island in the Black Sea became widely known following the onset of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. However, scientific research on the island had been conducted for many years prior to these events. At present, Snake Island represents one of the most environmentally contaminated territories globally and clearly requires systematic and multidisciplinary investigation.
